Detroit Pistons terminate assistant GM Rob Murphy following allegations of workplace misconduct investigation

After being on leave since October during an investigation into his alleged interactions with a former female employee,

The Detroit Pistons have fired assistant general manager Rob Murphy.

The news of Murphy's termination was first reported by the Detroit Free Press after they contacted the Pistons for inquiry.

In a statement given to the Detroit Free Press, the Pistons confirmed that Rob Murphy has been terminated from all his positions with the team and its affiliate, Motor City Cruise.

The team cited violation of company policy and employment agreement terms as the reason for Murphy's recent termination. A national law firm assisted in conducting a review of the allegations made by a former employee,

which led to the surfacing of facts that resulted in his termination.

Recently, DeJanai Raska, a former executive assistant to Terrence Murphy, has filed a lawsuit against Murphy and the Detroit Pistons, alleging a pattern of sexual harassment, intimidation, and attempted sexual assault.

This development follows the news that Murphy has been placed on leave while the organization investigates potential workplace misconduct.

Murphy, who hails from Detroit, joined the Pistons organization in 2021 as the president of the Motor City Cruise and was later promoted to assistant general manager.

Prior to this, he had spent almost two decades coaching in the college ranks, including a ten-year stint as head coach at Eastern Michigan. Before that,

He was an assistant under Jim Boeheim at Syracuse, where Pistons general manager Troy Weaver also served as an assistant.

It is worth noting that Murphy's situation came to light just a month after the Celtics suspended Ime Udoka for a year over allegations of similar misconduct.

Udoka has since become the head coach of the Houston Rockets, but the Pistons reportedly were never seriously considering him as a candidate, despite his status as one of the top head coaches on the market.
